It started with a narwhal and a mid-life crisis.
Bad Liars is an Atlanta rock band founded in 2019 when Mike Nizinski (vocals, guitar) quit his job. In the fallout, he reconnected with a former coworker who encouraged him to connect with her husband, Jordi Castells (vocals, guitar). Despite having little musical overlap, the two bonded over their nearly identical late-'90s cherry burst Epiphone Les Pauls.
By mid-2019, the duo added Randy Lybbert (vocals, bass), another ex-coworker. With a name in place by late 2020, Bad Liars started out backed by digital drum tracks playing a handful of originals inspired by Ramones, Green Day,The Goo Goo Dolls, and Gin Blossoms. Blake Hoffmeyer (drums) joined the trio in 2023 and became the final piece that rounded out Bad Liars' sound.
In 2024, the crew hit the studio to record their debut 5-song EP, Blood, Sweat & Stones, produced by Dan Konopka (of OK Go) and Chris Love. The record is a love letter to ’90s alt-rock with a mid-life twist: a bit wiser, a lot more bruised, yet undeniably relatable.
Bad Liars' music explores loss, addiction, conflict, long, and the ever-present tension of the times, delivered with loud guitars, driving rhythms, and a healthy dose of humor.
