It started with a narwhal and a mid-life crisis.

Bad Liars is an Atlanta rock band founded in 2019 when Mike Nizinski (vocals, guitar) quit his job. In the fallout, he reconnected with a former coworker who encouraged him to connect with her husband, Jordi Castells (vocals, guitar). Despite having little musical overlap, the two bonded over their nearly identical late-'90s cherry burst Epiphone Les Pauls.

By mid-2019, the duo added Randy Lybbert (vocals, bass), another ex-coworker. With a name in place by late 2020, Bad Liars started out backed by digital drum tracks playing a handful of originals inspired by Ramones, Green Day,The Goo Goo Dolls, and Gin Blossoms. Blake Hoffmeyer (drums) joined the trio in 2023 and became the final piece that rounded out Bad Liars' sound.‍

In 2024, the crew hit the studio to record their debut 5-song EP, Blood, Sweat & Stones, produced by Dan Konopka (of OK Go) and Chris Love. The record is a love letter to ’90s alt-rock with a mid-life twist: a bit wiser, a lot more bruised, yet undeniably relatable.

Bad Liars' music explores loss, addiction, conflict, long, and the ever-present tension of the times, delivered with loud guitars, driving rhythms, and a healthy dose of humor.

Jordi Castells

Guitar, Vocals

Is the pseudonym for Dr. Mephisto Love (P.h.D.), who adopted this persona after being granted asylum and witness protection in the US while on the run from satanic drug cartels in his native Mexico. His prowess in the arts of psychomagic is only matched by his love for exotic game meats and mezcal. Jordi has been playing in punk rock bands, DIY-ing and badly lying since the late 1990s.

Mike Nizinski

Guitar, Vocals

Mike began playing guitar in the mid-90s and started writing shortly after. After moving to Atlanta in early 2000, he cut his teeth playing original songs at Eddie's Attic — a famed ATL open mic spot known for launching many song writing careers. Even with major influence ranging from hard rock bands like Guns n' Roses to more alternative acts like Blind Melon, Mike can't seem to escape his love of the pop punk rock from his youth.

Randy Lybbert

Bass, Background Vocals

Growing up close to the 90's musical haven in the Pacific North West, Randy has an eclectic musical taste. Mixing humor with relatable life situations, Randy brings new ideas to his band mates. While mostly playing bass, Randy also dabbles in music production and can, if you beg him, play guitar.

Blake Hoffmeyer

Drums

Blake was found on a river with a stick and bucket. He was quickly recruited to take the place of HAL-DRUMS 1000.
